Music, Ramblings

[ring ring goes my cell phone around 6:00pm EST]

“Hey [14 Giants], it’s Jason [of The Darcys]. Wes and I are just on our way for a drink. Care to join us?”*

[thud]

OMG! OMG! OMG!

*Not an actual quote. The words were along those same lines, but I lost consciousness after “Hey [14 Giants], it’s Jason.”

Thus began a chain of events that culminated 30 minutes later with me sitting in front of 2/5ths of The Darcys.

Holy. Shit.

Yes. I took this photo. Me. Sitting across the table from Them. Mere feet away.

It all came together so fast. My head is still spinning.

So where did it all go down, you ask? At the courtyard patio of The Green Room, a secluded pub in the back alley (yes, really) of Brunswick Ave. here in Toronto, just off Bloor.

And how did our first meeting go, you ask?

Find out, after the jump!

I have to admit: I was a little scared walking into the pub. Given the content of this blog, and the fact that I’ve been blogging obsessively incessantly (and shall I say “enthusiastically”?) about The Darcys for two years, I couldn’t help but wonder: would our first meeting be (oh, I don’t know…) awkward?

Anyway, I am pleased to say that my concerns were completely unfounded. Wes and Jason are exactly as I imagined them: a couple of sweet, intelligent, earnest guys. Couldn’t be nicer. Wasn’t awkward at all. In fact, the blog itself occupied only a small part of our conversation (”you’re, um, consistent,” said Wes). The rest of our chat lasted about an hour and touched on many different subjects. At that point we all had to move on to our separate activities already scheduled for the evening.

But not before we got wet.

That ain’t glitter, fools. That’s rain!

Two Darcys down, three to go! Can it happen? I’ve got another week to find out! And (lest we forget) I get to see The Darcys in concert this Friday! It goes to show, kiddies: throw sanity and common sense to the wind, blog with your heart on your sleeve, and anything is possible! There can be miracles…!

I’m so happy!!

    That’s awesome! Good work!

I dunno. Did you actually get your picture taken WITH any of the Darcys? Not that I’m impugning your claim to have actually shared an evening with your heroes but I would think, given your….consistent adoration, you’d want photographic proof that they were indeed right at your side.

Must you poo-poo on my happiness, Brian? MUST you?

    I’m with Brian.

I hope to god you didn’t order a long island ice tea in a pub that’s in a back alley… who’s the one in the plaid shirt… he’s hot…does he have a girlfriend?? Would he date your fake exwife? Wouldn’t that be uncomfortable… I’m sure both of them told someone exactly where they were going and who they were meeting and that if they didn’t hear from them in a hour to come looking… cuz that’s what I would do if I was meeting you for the first time…

One doesn’t tend to do beards but aside from that - well done! I’m breathing a sigh of relief that you’ve finally met them. Was it an anti-climax or were they everything you’d hoped they’d be?

  7. Ryan Says:

    Alison: Judas.

Ronda: Jason’s the one in the plaid. And no, no Long Islands (I make too many of them at home). I had Heineken.

    Matt: everything and more.

  8. Jaason B. Says:

    Hey Ryan, it’s Jaason.

Just now, did my salutation elicit the same response as it did in Toronto?

  9. Ronda Says:

    Jason’s hot…in a Ryan Gosling/The Notebook kinda way… lol

  10. Ryan Says:

Jason: maybe if your name only had one “A” in it.
    Ronda: I’ll pass that along.

I don’t feel I’m poo pooing at all. I’m very happy you’re happy. But, just as I snapped a photo of myself with Catherine Tate on my recent trip to London, I would have thought you’d want to commemorate this most happy event with a similar photo.

    No poo poo. Really.
